Barcelona manager Ernesto Valverde is under serious pressure ahead of the league game against Villarreal.
Valverde is in the line of fire after Spanish champions Barcelona made a disappointing start to the new Spanish La Liga season and his reign could end if the Catalans lose their home game to Villarreal.
Ernesto Valverde is in his third season at Barcelona.
He won the Spanish La Liga title in each of his first two seasons as the Barcelona manager but successive Champions League meltdowns against Italian Serie A giants AS Roma and Liverpool have tainted his managerial reign at the Nou Camp.
His third season has not started well after Barcelona lost two of their first five league games this season including the 2-0 loss to newly promoted side Granada on Saturday.
Star player Lionel Messi made a second half appearance against Granada as he’s just returning from an injury layoff and he’s expected to start the Villarreal game on Tuesday night.
Valverde has named an 18-man squad to prosecute the Villarreal game.
Full Barcelona Squad: Ter Stegen, N. Semedo, Piqué, Sergio, Todibo, Arthur, Suárez, Messi, O. Dembélé, Neto, Lenglet, Griezmann, Aleñá, S. Roberto, F. De Jong, Vidal, Junior and Ansu Fati.
