North London giants Arsenal have a good opportunity to get back to winning ways in the Premier League when they face newly promoted team Aston Villa this weekend.

The Gunners will host Aston Villa at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday evening in what’s a week six game in the Premier League.

Arsenal have not won a Premier League game since the week two victory over Burnley.

The Gunners beat Burnley 2-1 at home in week two and they have gone three games without a win since then.

Arsenal lost 3-1 at Premier League leaders Liverpool in week three before playing out a thrilling 2-2 draw at home to North London rivals Tottenham Hotspur in week four just before the international break.

Arsenal came from two goals down to take a point against Spurs.

The Gunners then went on to repeat the same scoreline away to the bottom team, Watford.

Arsenal were cruising at 2-0 at the halftime interval of the Watford game before the North Londoners pressed the self destruct button.

Watford scored two second-half goals to earn a point from that game.

Arsenal XI vs Aston Villa: Bernd Leno; Ainsley Maitland-Niles, Sokratis Papasthathopoulos, David Luiz, Sead Kolasinac; Granit Xhaka, Matteo Guendouzi, Mesut Ozil, Dani Ceballos; Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Nicholas Pepe.

EPL: Wright takes a dig at Man United in “van de Beek comment”

Donny Van Der Beek

Arsenal legend Ian Wright has taken a dig at Man United by claiming that their new signing Donny van de Beek would have fit into the Gunners system more than the Red Devils.

Donny van de Beek is the only major signing by Man United this season after joining from Ajax to add to the options in the midfield.

Ian Wright claims the Dutch midfielder could have been better at Arsenal when he spoke on The Kelly & Wrighty Show. He noted that Donny van de Beek’s quality already exists at the Old Trafford before his coming, adding that he does the same thing as Paul Pogba and Bruno Fernandes.

The Arsenal legend admits the Dutch midfielder is a great player but he might not give more than what the Red Devils already have because his preferred positions are already being handled by great players.

However, the Gunners are currently in the search for a new midfielder as they are making efforts to convince Atletico Madrid and Lyon for the signatures of Thomas Partey and Houssem Aouar respectively.

Meanwhile, Man United have given the hint that they are still in the summer transfer market to land players that will help improve their team for the season’s challenge.

Houssem Aouar

Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has given the hint that the North London outfit Arsenal will snap up the signature of Houssem Aouar from French Ligue 1 outfit by leaving it close to the end of the summer transfer window.

Houssem Aouar is a top target for the Gunners and efforts to convince the French Ligue 1 giants to come down from their £54 million asking price has failed but the North London club are not giving up on eh possibility of the deal.

Manager Mikel Arteta holds the belief that his side can challenge for titles and return to the Champions League if he is able to add a quality midfielder to his team before the end of the summer window.

However, the transfer guru hinted that the Gunners will leave it late to strike the deal for the 22-year-old midfielder, adding that in the process of waiting for the last minute, Arsenal must have gotten rid of Sead Kolasinac, Lucas Torreira, and Sokratis Papa to raise some funds.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Houssem Aouar is very interested in the idea of moving to Arsenal and he is ready to give his nod as soon as an agreement is reached between the two clubs.

Houssem Aouar

Lyon president Jean Michel Aulas has poured cold water on the reported interest of Arsenal in club skipper Houssem Aouar.

The Lyon supremo told French media portal Le Progres that Arsenal and other clubs will find it hard to sign Houssem Aouar in the current transfer market which will close on the 5th of October.

According to him, the best decision would be for the player to stay at the club beyond this summer’s transfer window.

Lyon don’t have European football to offer Houssem Aouar this season but the club supremo still believes that staying at the club would be the best bet for the 22-year-old Frenchman.

Arsenal, Juventus, Manchester City and Real Madrid have all been linked with a move for Houssem Aouar this summer and only the Gunners have made an official bid for him.

The Premier League giants offered cash plus Matteo Guendouzi in July and it was turned down by the French club.

Aouar was one of the best midfielders in the Champions League last season as Lyon got to the last four before they were eliminated by German Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich.

The French junior international scored one goal plus four assists in eight Champions League matches.

Philippe Coutinho

Arsenal are eyeing a late loan move for Barcelona midfielder Philippe Coutinho according to the publication from Spanish outlet SPORT.

The Gunners had earlier weighed up the option of signing Philippe Coutinho on loan from Barcelona at the start of the transfer window in July but it looks like new Barcelona manager Ronald Koeman wants to keep the 29-year-old at the Nou Camp.

The report mentioned earlier stated that Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta could still make a move for the Brazilian international before the end of the transfer window.

The Barcelona player could boost the Brazilian contingent at Arsenal further this summer.

Arsenal signed Willian from Chelsea on a free transfer this summer to take the number of Brazilian players at Arsenal to three. The other Brazilian players at the club are David Luiz and Gabriel Martinelli.

Philippe Coutinho has not lived up to his hefty price tag at Barcelona following his £142m transfer from Liverpool in January 2018.

He left Barcelona to join German Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich at the start of last season after a difficult 18-month period at the start of his Barcelona career.

Coutinho played his part in the treble-winning campaign of the Bavarian giants last season.

Liverpool Are Confident

Arsenal have been linked with a shock transfer swoop on one of their top four rivals between now and the end of the transfer window.

Sky Sports revealed that the Gunners are prepared to make another transfer assault on London rivals Chelsea by signing their Italian international Jorginho.

Arsenal have signed two players from Chelsea in the last two summer transfer windows and they could make it three with the transfer of Jorginho.

The Gunners signed Brazilian centre back David Luiz from Chelsea in an £8m deal last summer before completing a free transfer move for fellow Brazilian Willian this summer.

The report via Sky Sports said that the Gunners are eyeing Jorginho as a possible replacement for the outgoing Lucas Torreira.

Uruguayan international Torreira is closing in on a loan move to Atletico Madrid in the Spanish league though the club is yet to reach an agreement with the Gunners.

Arsenal want an obligation to buy at the end of the loan deal for Lucas Torreira, while Atletico Madrid are only keen to put option to buy the player when his proposed loan contract ends.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta was the assistant manager to Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola when the Citizens tried to sign Jorginho from Italian club Napoli in 2018 and he has retained that interest in the player.

Houssem Aouar

Arsenal are prepared to sell as many as seven players in order to raise funds for their two midfield targets, Houssem Aouar and Thomas Partey.

This is via the report from the Daily Star which disclosed that the Gunners want to sign Aouar and Partey before the summer’s transfer window ends next month.

Arsenal will have to raise money to sign the two aforementioned midfielders having spent their transfer budget this summer on six players.

The North Londoners made the loan deals of defenders Cedric Soares and Pablo Mari permanent, while the loan deal of Spanish midfielder Dani Ceballos was also extended.

The Spaniard will spend this season on loan at the Emirates Stadium after a successful spell on loan last term.

Arsenal signed Brazilian winger Willian from London rivals Chelsea on a free transfer, while Icelandic international shot stopper Runar Alex Runarsson recently joined Arsenal from French side Dijon.

Their biggest transfer of the summer still remains the £25m spent on Brazilian defender Gabriel Magalhaes.

Arsenal midfielders Lucas Torreira and Matteo Guendouzi have been strongly linked with moves away and their sales would give the Gunners part of the cash needed to sign both Aouar and Partey.

Sokratis Papasthathopoulos, Hector Bellerin, Mesut Ozil, Alexandre Lacazette and Shkodran Mustafi are all up for sale at Arsenal.

Mesut Ozil

A lot of concerns have been raised over the future of Arsenal outcast Mesut Ozil at the Emirates Stadium but there has been no one available to give an explanation, not even manager Mikel Arteta.

It is understood that the former Real Madrid midfielder has been training with the first team without any injury concern, yet he has continued to be snubbed for selections, the latest being the Carabao Cup against Leicester City.

Mesut Ozil has been frozen out of the team, yet he is refusing to leave the club with reports that he has been receiving offers from a number of clubs in Turkey, Qatar, Italy, and Saudi Arabia.

What makes the situation looks more complicated is the fact that Mesut Ozil has always looked happy in training and that has reflected in his social media posts.

However, the question was again, put forward to manager Mikel Arteta and he refused to give an answer as the German international was not named in the team that traveled to the King Power Stadium on Wednesday night.

When pressed, the Spanish boss opened up by stating that it will be very difficult to have Mesut Ozil in the squad because of the change in the team, adding that players are selected based on their condition.

Lucas Torreira

There have been reports claiming that Uruguay international midfielder Lucas Torreira could be heading to the Spanish La Liga outfit Atletico Madrid but that cannot be confirmed.

The Spanish La Liga outfit are keen on signing the Arsenal midfielder with claims that Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone is a big fan of the former Sampdoria midfielder.

Arsenal have made an attempt to secure a swap deal with Lucas Torreira as they are also interested in the signature of Atletico Madrid midfielder Thomas Partey but the Madrid team have insisted on separate deals and negotiations for the two players.

However, is reported that Lucas Torreira has agreed on personal terms with Atletico Madrid with a move imminent but the claim in this report is under threat with the latest report that two Serie A outfits are also keen on the Uruguay international.

Fiorentina and Torino have both made attempts in the past to land Lucas Torreira this summer transfer window and they are reportedly not willing o end their chase cheaply, according to Calcio Mercato.

However, the decision will be left to Arsenal to make as they are not interested in a loan move for Lucas Torreira as proposed by Atletico Madrid. This means any club willing to meet his asking price will have the deal.
