Former Manchester United and Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has paid tribute to Barcelona skipper Lionel Messi in one of his recent interviews.

In the interview monitored by FourFourTwo, Jose Mourinho praised the quality of Lionel Messi before pointing out that the Argentine international captain has made him a better coach.

According to him, he had to organize his team to deal with the threat of Messi on several occasions.

Jose Mourinho was the Real Madrid manager when he faced Barcelona and Lionel Messi.

He faced the petite Barcelona superstar 13 times between 2010 and 2013.

While he was at Real Madrid, Lionel Messi and Barcelona dominated the domestic scene and only restricted him to the 2011/12 Spanish La Liga title.

Jose Mourinho left Real Madrid for Chelsea in the summer of 2013 and he spent over two years before being sacked in December 2015.

It was his second spell as the Chelsea manager and it ended with one Premier League title in addition to the two league titles from his first spell.

He was appointed as the Manchester United in the summer of 2016 and the Portuguese tactician went on to win three trophies in his first season including the Europa League title via the 2-0 win over Dutch giants Ajax Amsterdam in their final clash.
