Newcastle United midfielder Sean Longstaff has revealed that transfer rumors linking him with a move to Manchester United in the summer turned out to be a distraction for him.
He made this known in a chat with the official website of Newcastle United.
Sean Longstaff also said that club teammate Matt Ritchie helped him to deal with the transfer speculation.
The 21-year-old was linked with a £30m move to Manchester United this summer.
Newcastle United didn’t want to sell the young midfielder and they got their wish after Manchester United failed to lure him to the Theatre of Dreams.

Sean Longstaff spent some time on loan at clubs like Blackpool and Kilmarnock before returning to Newcastle United last year.
The young Newcastle United midfielder made his first debut for the club during the Carabao Cup clash with Nottingham Forest.
He went on to make nine appearances in the Premier League for the Magpies before suffering a serious knee injury.
The knee injury suffered by Longstaff ended his season abruptly.
Sean Longstaff has recovered from that knee injury over the summer and he has been a regular for the Magpies at the start of this Premier League season.
He has been involved in all the four league games this season.
