Liverpool defender Virgil Van Dijk has paid tribute to Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi and Juventus attacker Cristiano Ronaldo after he beat the two players to the UEFA Player of the Season.
Van Dijk spoke in glowing terms about Messi and Ronaldo shortly after he was presented with the aforementioned award at the UEFA Champions League Awards held in Monaco.
According to him, he’s privileged to be in the same category with great players like Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.
Van Dijk reaped the rewards for a very good season for both club (Liverpool) and country (Netherlands).

He was a key player for Liverpool who ran Manchester City close for the Premier League title last season before they missed out on the title by one point.
Virgil Van Dijk played a crucial role for Liverpool who ended their seven-year trophy drought by winning the Champions League via a 2-0 win over Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur in their final clash.
He was also named the Defender of the Year at the aforementioned award ceremony.
Van Dijk and the Netherlands reached the UEFA National League final before they were beaten 1-0 by European champions Portugal.
Goncalo Guedes scored the only goal of the game for Portugal.
