Athletic Bilbao forward Inaki Williams has signed a new contract at the club to further put a move to Manchester United in the nearest future in serious doubt.
Inaki Williams was strongly linked with a move to the Premier League outfit towards the end of the Premier League transfer window but those rumours turned out to be far fetched.
He has signed a nine-year contract at Athletic Bilbao until the end of the 2027/28 season.
In addition, his release clause has moved from £81m to £128m.
The young Athletic Bilbao forward was seen as a direct replacement for Romelu Lukaku who left Manchester United to join Italian Serie A giants Inter Milan in a £73.9m deal last week.
Manchester United were said to be willing to pay Inaki Williams’ release clause at Athletic Bilbao but the move didn’t take place.
Inter Milan will pay an initial fee of £64.7m for Belgian international striker Lukaku in addition to £9.7m in add-ons.
The former Stoke City, West Brom and Chelsea striker has been given the number nine jersey at Inter Milan.
Romelu Lukaku spent two seasons at Manchester United upon his move from Merseyside giants Everton.
He scored 42 goals in all competitions for the Red Devils during his time at the club.
