Former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson is reportedly pushing for the club to sign Aston Villa midfielder John McGinn before the Premier League transfer window ends next week.

This is according to the publication from the stables of The Sun which claimed that Sir Alex Ferguson wants a transfer for the Scottish international player.

Sir Alex Ferguson is a director at Manchester United and he still has a big influence at the club.

The 77-year-old is also friends with John McGinn’s grandad Jack.

Manchester United had earlier been linked with a move for the player in their quest to sign a new midfielder this summer.

John McGinn has been slapped with a £50m transfer fee as Aston Villa try to fend off the interest of Manchester United.

The Red Devils have been linked with several midfielders this summer as they try to sign a replacement for Spanish international Ander Herrera who left the club earlier this summer to join French champions Paris Saint Germain (PSG) on a free transfer.

Sporting Lisbon star Bruno Fernandes and young Newcastle United player Sean Longstaff are the top two midfield targets for the Red Devils as they try to sign a midfielder before the end of the Premier League transfer window next week.
