Former Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney has given a surprising answer to the question asked on the best coach he worked with at the Premier League club.

In an interview with popular media outlet De Telegraaf, Rooney opted for Dutch tactician Louis Van Gaal (LVG) ahead of legendary Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson.

According to him, LVG was thorough as a coach before adding that the former Bayern Munich and Barcelona manager pays attention to details.

Rooney plays for Major League Soccer (MLS) club D.C. United at the moment and he has been repeatedly linked with a return to Premier League football after he left Everton for the United States of America last year.

Former Manchester United manager LVG was appointed as the Manchester United manager shortly before the start of the 2014/15 season.

The Dutchman resumed officially as the Manchester United manager shortly after he led the Netherlands to a surprising third place at the 2014 FIFA World Cup tournament in Brazil.

He led Manchester United to fourth place in the Premier League in what was his first season as the Red Devils manager.

LVG won his first and last trophy as a Manchester United in the FA Cup at the end of the 2015/16 season.
