Leicester City defender Harry Maguire is expected to join Premier League champions Manchester City in the coming days after he agreed to join the Citizens this summer.

The England international has agreed on a deal worth £280,000 on a weekly basis with Manchester City in addition to a world-record transfer fee for a defender.

Manchester City will pay £80m for Harry Maguire to make him the most expensive defender in the history of world football ahead of current recipient Virgil Van Dijk whom Liverpool paid £75m to secure his transfer from fellow Premier League club Southampton at the start of 2018.

Manchester City won the race to sign Harry Maguire ahead of city rivals Manchester United who also wanted to sign the 26-year-old centre back.

According to the publication from the stables of The Sun, Harry Maguire snubbed Manchester United for Manchester City despite the fact that the Red Devils were willing to offer him more money.

The new development is a big blow for Manchester United who had the opportunity to sign Harry Maguire last summer.

The former Premier League champions balked at the £60m-£70m asking price from the Foxes for Harry Maguire shortly after last summer’s FIFA World Cup tournament in Russia.
