East London giants West Ham United are still interested in signing Celta Vigo striker Maxi Gomez according to the latest reports emanating from the media in the United Kingdom.

The Hammers thought they were closing in on a deal for Maxi Gomez after their £29m bid was accepted only for talks to break down with the player.

According to the publication from the London Evening Standard, West Ham United are still hopeful of a deal for Celta Vigo striker Maxi Gomez.

The Uruguayan international star has been attracting the interest of several clubs on the European football scene on the back of his superb season with the Spanish La Liga outfit.

West Ham United want to sign a new striker ahead of the new season and they have made Maxi Gomez a top priority in that regard.

Apart from West Ham United, Maxi Gomez has been linked with a move to other European clubs like the Spanish La Liga duo of Valencia and Barcelona as well as Premier League giants Liverpool.

Maxi Gomez scored 13 league goals for Celta Vigo as he helped his team escape relegation from the Spanish La Liga last season.

He could be a direct replacement for Andy Carroll who has been released by the Hammers after the expiration of his contract.
