Premier League giants Manchester United are targeting a move for highly rated Ajax Amsterdam defender Matthijs De Ligt during this summer’s transfer window according to popular media portal Goal.
The Premier League transfer window officially opened last week Thursday and the Red Devils are expected to overhaul their playing squad.
Manchester United want to sign the hugely talented De Ligt but they are said to be third favourites to sign him.
The aforementioned report revealed that the Red Devils are behind both Spanish champions Barcelona and Premier League champions Manchester City in the race to sign the 19-year-old Ajax Amsterdam skipper.
The Dutch international centre back is undoubtedly one of the most sought-after young talents on the European football stage during this summer’s transfer window.
A transfer fee exceeding £60m will be required to sign him from Ajax this summer with the Dutch Eredivisie giants resigned to losing his services.
Matthijs De Ligt has had a superb season for Ajax this season after leading the team to a domestic double namely the Dutch Eredivisie title and the Dutch Cup title.
Apart from the domestic double, De Ligt also led his team to the Champions League semifinal before they were eliminated on the away goals rule by Premier League outfit Tottenham Hotspur.
