Three-time European champions Manchester United have been turned back in their bid to sign Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly this summer.
This is according to the latest reports coming out of the Italian media.
Manchester United are in the market for a new centre back and they have set their sights on the aforementioned Koulibaly who has been a long-term transfer target.
According to the publication from La Gazzetta dello Sport, Manchester United have made a stunning bid of around €110m for Senegalese international Kalidou Koulibaly.
It was also revealed that Napoli rejected the big bid from Manchester United for the quality centre back.
The transfer fee would have made Kalidou Koulibaly the most expensive defender in world football ahead of Liverpool defender Virgil Van Dijk.
Dutch international Van Dijk holds the record for the most expensive defender after the Reds paid £75m for him.
He joined Liverpool from fellow Premier League club Southampton in January 2018.
Koulibaly and Van Dijk are widely regarded as two of the top three defenders on the world football stage alongside Real Madrid skipper Sergio Ramos.
Napoli had earlier rejected several bids from Manchester United for Koulibaly towards the end of last year and they have received the same response with their latest bid as mentioned above.
