Real Madrid forward Gareth Bale hit a new low in his career at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu after he was dropped for the game with Villarreal over the weekend.
The decision to leave Bale out of the Real Madrid squad for the Spanish La Liga home game with the Yellow Submarines has further heightened transfer rumours linking him with a move back to the Premier League.
Gareth Bale has struggled to perform well for Real Madrid in recent weeks and he has been touted as a possible addition to the Premier League squads of clubs like Chelsea and Manchester United.
The Welsh international star came close to joining Manchester United before he signed for Real Madrid in the summer of 2013.
Bale signed for Real Madrid in a world-record fee believed to be around £85.3m and he went on to win the Champions League title with the Los Merengues in his first season.
When asked about Bale’s omission from the Villarreal game which Real Madrid won 3-2 courtesy goals from Mariano Diaz (2) and Jesus Vallejo, Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane told reporters that he picked the best squad of players for the La Liga match.
Bale had been below par during the surprising 1-0 league defeat at relegation battlers Rayo Vallecano last week.
