Premier League giants Manchester United have been handed the opportunity to boost their defensive options ahead of next season.

The Red Devils have been given the opportunity to sign Norwich City defender Ben Godfrey.

This is according to the publication from The Sun which claimed that the 21-year-old English centre back was offered to club legend Rio Ferdinand.

The former Manchester United defender was at the club until 2013 when he left to join London side Queens Park Rangers (QPR) where he spent just one year before retiring from football.

Rio Ferdinand has been linked with the director of football role at Manchester United and he’s said to be the favourite to take over that role.

Norwich City defender Ben Godfrey has had a very good season for his team whom he helped to gain promotion to the Premier League last weekend.

Ben Godfrey and Norwich City can win the English Championship title this season with just one point from their last league game of the season which is an away game at Aston Villa on Sunday afternoon.

Young centre back Ben Godfrey would be a good addition to an underperforming Manchester United rearguard.

The Red Devils have one of the worst rearguards in the Premier League this season after conceding 51 goals in just 37 games.
