Deal Close: Man Utd Plotting £26m Move For Young Defender
Three-time European champions Manchester United are eyeing a move for highly rated Saint Etienne defender William Saliba ahead of this summer’s transfer window.
This is according to the publication from French media outlet Le10sport which claimed that the Red Devils will have to contend with the interest from Portuguese giants Benfica in the same player.
William Saliba has impressed a great deal for Champions League chasers Saint Etienne this season and its not surprising that the young centre back has been linked with a summer move to major European sides like Manchester United and Benfica.
The 18-year-old recently signed a new two-year contract at Saint Etienne but that won’t stop the French top flight club from selling him if their conditions are met.
William Saliba and Saint Etienne are in a keenly contested race for Champions League football next season alongside Lyon.
Saint Etienne are three points adrift of the final Champions League spot currently held by Lyon who reached this season’s first knockout stage before they were bundled out of the competition by Spanish champions Barcelona.
Saint Etienne want around £26m for Saliba with the condition of the player returning to the club on loan for next season which won’t go down well with Benfica officials thus leaving Manchester United as favourites for him.
