Arsenal manager Unai Emery has explained the reason behind the absence of star striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang for the Premier League clash with Wolverhampton Wanderers on Wednesday night.

The Gabonese international star was conspicuously absent from the Arsenal squad as the Gunners lost another game away from home in the Premier League this season.

In his pre-match press conference ahead of the crucial Premier League clash with Leicester City, Unai Emery revealed the reason behind the absence of his star striker for the Wolves game.

According to him, the former Saint Etienne and Borussia Dortmund striker had to undergo a small sinus procedure.

It was done to clear an infection on his face.

The Gunners boss said that it was decided with the doctors two weeks ago that the player will undergo the procedure during the period involving the Wolves game.

Without Aubameyang, Arsenal were outclassed and outfought by Wolves who won 3-1 with the aid of three first half goals.

Ruben Neves, Matt Doherty and Diogo Jota scored three goals in the last 19 minutes of the first half to give the hosts a 3-0 lead before Arsenal defender Sokratis Papasthathopoulos scored what was a consolation in the final ten minutes of the game.

Aubameyang has returned to training ahead of the Leicester City according to Unai Emery.

He’s expected to play a part for the Gunners who are chasing a top-four spot in the league.
