Premier League giants Manchester United have been eliminated from this season’s Champions League after their second defeat in a week at the hands of Spanish champions Barcelona.

The Spaniards will feature in the semifinal of the competition after they thrashed Manchester United 3-0 in the second leg of their quarterfinal tie to secure a 4-0 aggregate win over the Red Devils.

Barcelona proved to be a class above their English opponents who didn’t manage a goal in 180 minutes of football.

Manchester United had lost the first leg in England 1-0 courtesy an own goal from Luke Shaw and the second leg defeat was even more convincing thanks to the quality shown by Barcelona skipper and five-time Ballon d’Or winner Messi.

The Argentine superstar opened the floodgate of goals on 16 minutes after he skipped past several Manchester United players before unleashing a low left-footed shot that De Gea had no answers to.

Messi added a second goal four minutes later with a right-footed shot that De Gea should have easily dealt with as the litte magician ensured that the last eight tie was out of the reach of Manchester United as early as the first quarter of the game.

Philippe Coutinho wrapped up the dominant win just after the hour mark against a clueless Manchester United team.

Barcelona will now face the winner of the quarterfinal tie between Premier League leaders Liverpool and Portuguese champions FC Porto.
