Merseyside giants Everton are one of the most in-form teams in the Premier League after they defeated Arsenal 1-0 in their league clash on Sunday.

The Toffees had won their last two games against the London duo of Chelsea and West Ham United before the Arsenal game.

Victory over the Gunners made it a hattrick of wins over London clubs.

Everton got the only goal of the game in the 10th minute through club skipper Phil Jagielka who was not expected to start the game.

Toffees boss Marco Silva had to make one change to his already named starting XI shortly before kickoff after England international defender Michael Keane fell ill.

Keane was replaced by Jagielka who went on to score the only goal of the game to help the Toffees dent the Gunners’ top-four hopes.

Everton should have scored more than once in the game but the likes of Richarlison and Gylfi Sigurdsson missed decent opportunities to give the hosts a convincing victory.

The 1-0 home win over Arsenal was enough to take Everton above FA Cup finalists Watford and into the ninth position on the table with 46 points.

Arsenal continue to perform poorly away from home and that could affect their chances of a top-four finish at the end of the season.
