Former Manchester United defender Wes Brown has advised his former club on how to limit the impact of Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi ahead of their Champions League quarterfinal clash on Wednesday night.

Manchester United face Spanish champions Barcelona at Old Trafford on Wednesday in the first leg of their last eight tie before the second leg scheduled for the Nou Camp in Spain on April 16.

Argentine national team skipper Messi has done previous damage to the Champions League title aspirations of Manchester United and former club players are understandably worried about his potential impact on the two-legged quarterfinal clash with his Barcelona team.

On dealing with Messi, Wes Brown told the Manchester United players to always stay on their feet whenever they face him during the course of the match.

In a chat with the official Manchester United website, Wes Brown revealed that the best way to reduce the impact of Messi on the game is to frustrate him.

Wes Brown faced Messi in 2008 when Manchester United eliminated Barcelona in the semifinals via a 1-0 aggregate win.

Messi came back stronger as he scored in back-to-back finals against Manchester United to give Spanish giants Barcelona two Champions League titles in three seasons (2009 and 2011).
