Former England national team skipper Wayne Rooney was in a very good form as he played a big role to help his DC United side past Orlando City in their Major League Soccer (MLS) clash on Sunday evening.
Rooney was the star of the show as he scored and produced an assist during an impressive first-half display to lead his team to a first away win since May via a 2-1 win over Orlando City.
The former Manchester United player provided the first goal of the game for Steven Birnbaum in the sixth minute.
Birnbaum gave the visitors a sixth-minute lead after he met the freekick from Rooney with a precise header.
Rooney graduated from provider to goalscorer on the half-hour mark when he curled a freekick into the back of the net thereby giving his team a 2-0 lead at the halftime interval.
Dom Dyers pulled one back for the hosts in the 63rd minute but DC United held on for their first away victory in the MLS (Major League Soccer) for 10 months.
Rooney came face to face with ex-Manchester United teammate Luis Nani who recently moved to the MLS to team up with Orlando City.
The Portuguese player was unable to prevent his side from suffering a defeat against Rooney and his DC United teammates.
