Portuguese international right-back Joao Cancelo has disclosed that teammate Cristiano Ronaldo has nothing to prove ahead of his return to national team football.
Former Manchester United player Cristiano Ronaldo will return to the Portuguese national team setup for the first time in nine months ahead of the Euro 2020 qualifying games with Ukraine and Serbia.
At a news conference on Monday, Joao Cancelo welcomed Ronaldo back into the Portuguese national team fold before adding that the 34-year-old has nothing to prove to anyone.
His last appearance came at last summer’s FIFA World Cup tournament in Russia.
Ronaldo’s last game for Portugal was the last 16 clash with South American nation Uruguay.
Paris Saint Germain (PSG) striker Edinson Cavani scored twice to give Uruguay a 2-1 win over European champions Portugal.
Joao Cancelo is also a club teammate of Ronaldo as both players are on the books of Italian Serie A giants Juventus.
Ronaldo was in devastating form in his last game for the Old Lady as he almost single-handedly dragged them into the quarterfinals of the Champions League.
He netted a hattrick to give Juventus a 3-0 win over Spanish club Atletico Madrid in the second leg of their last 16 tie.
The result was enough to give Juventus a last eight spot via a 3-2 aggregate win.
