Manchester United came unstuck for the first time in 13 league games after they were beaten by Arsenal in their second Premier League meeting of the season.
Arsenal defeated Manchester United 2-0 at home to move ahead of the Red Devils in the battle for a top-four spot at the end of the season.
It was the first defeat suffered by interim Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer after a 12-game unbeaten run in the Premier League.
Solskjaer had led his team to ten wins and two draws from his first 12 league games as the Manchester United manager before the Arsenal game.
Arsenal started the game like a house on fire but it was Manchester United who fashioned out the first real chance of the game but striker Romelu Lukaku was only able to hit the crossbar with his shot.
Arsenal then went on to take the lead in the 12th minute through Granit Xhaka whose shot flew past David De Gea in goal for Manchester United.
Fred hit the outside of the post for Manchester United in the first half before Lukaku went on to miss several opportunities to equalise for his team either side of the halftime interval.
Those misses proved costly for Manchester United after Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang wrapped up the win from the spot after Alexandre Lacazette was said to have been fouled by the aforementioned Fred.
With the win, Arsenal moves ahead of Manchester United into the fourth spot with eight league games left to play.
