Arsenal forward Alex Iwobi is certain that the Gunners can overturn their first-leg deficit against French club Rennes in their Europa League last 16 ties.
Super Eagles player Iwobi revealed through his official Instagram handle that he’s upbeat about the Gunners’ ability to secure a quarterfinal spot in the Europa League by turning Rennes over in their second leg meeting at the Emirates Stadium on Thursday night.
Alex Iwobi had given Arsenal an early lead against Rennes for his fifth goal of the season in all competitions for the Gunners making it his most productive campaign for the North Londoners.
His goal was the difference between both teams before Arsenal defender Sokratis Papasthathopoulos was sent off for two yellow cards within the space of seven minutes.
The Arsenal red card was the major turning point of the game as the hosts capitalised on it by netting three goals.
Benjamin Bourigeaud equalised for Rennes shortly before halftime from the freekick caused by Sokratis for a foul on Ismaila Sarr.
Sokratis received a second yellow card for the said foul on Sarr.
Rennes went on to score two second-half goals through Nacho Monreal (own goal) and highly rated Senegalese winger Ismaila Sarr who has been previously linked with a move to the Gunners.
