Premier League champions Manchester City will reportedly have to pay a world-record fee for a defender in their quest to sign Leicester City star Ben Chilwell when the transfer window reopens in the summer.

This is according to the publication from popular English news outlet Daily Telegraph.

Manchester City are keen to strengthen the left-back area of their team and they have identified Ben Chilwell as a possible transfer addition. England international left-back Chilwell has also been linked with a move to Arsenal.

Recent reports claim that the Gunners want to sign a long-term replacement for first choice Nacho Monreal at left-back.

Ben Chilwell is enjoying a wonderful season for both club and country and it’s not surprising that major Premier League sides like Arsenal and Manchester City have registered their interest in the 22-year-old.

Manchester City have had to deal with the long-term injury of first choice left-back Benjamin Mendy and are keen to avoid a repeat ahead of next season.

French international Mendy has suffered several long-term injuries since his transfer to Manchester City from AS Monaco in the summer of 2017.

Manchester City will have to pay more than the world-record fee of £75m if they want to sign Ben Chilwell from Leicester City.

Liverpool defender Virgil Van Dijk holds the record after the Reds paid £75m for his transfer from Southampton last year.
