Premier League legend Robert Pires has revealed that Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba wanted a transfer to Spanish champions Barcelona while he was struggling to make a positive impact at the club.
Pires told Bwin about a possible Barcelona move for his compatriot as he revealed that his agent could still be working on the transfer to Nou Camp.
The former Arsenal midfielder believes that Paul Pogba will be better served staying at Manchester United.
2018 World Cup winner returned to Manchester United in the summer of 2016 in a then world-record deal.
Pogba had left the Red Devils on a free transfer to Italian Serie A champions Juventus in 2012 before returning to the club after Manchester United paid £89m to secure his signature.
The Frenchman won the Community Shield, Carabao Cup and the Europa League in his first season back at Manchester United before his issues with former manager Jose Mourinho began towards the end of his second season.
Mourinho and Pogba rarely enjoyed a good relationship in his third campaign before the Portuguese tactician was sacked in December.
Paul Pogba has found his best form as a Manchester United player since the exit of Mourinho.
He has scored nine goals in two months for Manchester United since the dismissal of Jose Mourinho this taking his tally to a personal best of 14 goals in all competitions this season.
Deal ON!!! Liverpool open new contract talks with star striker
The Merseyside outfit Liverpool have already opened talks for a new deal with Belgium international Divock Origi ahead of the coming season.
It was initially reported that Divock Origi would be leaving the club at the end of the season as a result of his lack of playing time but that seems to be changing at the moment with Liverpool impressed by his performance.
Divock Origi has been useful for the Jurgen Klopp team despite his lack of playing time as his brace against Spanish La Liga outfit will not be forgotten in a hurry which adds to the two important wins he got his team in the course of the season.
This has already improved the profile of the player and it has been considered that he should not be allowed to leave the club anytime soon.
However, the Reds team are now ready to pay Divock Origi more than the usual £60 million in his current contract to be able to convince him on a stay and as a way of rewarding him for a good job.
Meanwhile, the Reds boss Jurgen Klopp has insisted that he would keep his team together and will not need to move out for big signings, stressing that he is happy with his squad.

It was also revealed that Manchester United striker Marcus Rashford is also on the Barcelona radar.
French international striker Lacazette has been in very good form for Arsenal this season and it was not surprising when he won the Player of the Season Award at the club.
He has scored 18 goals in all competitions for Arsenal this season.
Gabonese international Aubameyang has also been in form for the Gunners with 31 goals in all competitions including 22 Premier League goals thus making him the joint league topscorer alongside the Liverpool duo of Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane.

Done Deal: Man Utd Target To Earn €85m At Barcelona
Atletico Madrid forward Antoine Griezmann will become one of the highest earners in European football when he signs for Spanish champions Barcelona in the coming days.
The French World Cup winner is expected to join Barcelona one year after the Blaugrana tried and failed to sign him.
Barcelona wanted to sign the aforementioned Griezmann last summer but the player decided to stay with Atletico Madrid and even went on to sign a new contract with the Spanish capital club.
The French attacker confirmed that he will be leaving Atletico Madrid at the end of this season after five years with them.
His confirmation came via a video posted on the official Twitter handle of Atletico Madrid.
Barcelona is expected to activate the £103m release clause in his contract thus becoming the fifth most expensive signing in the history of world football behind the likes of Paris Saint Germain (PSG) duo Neymar and Kylian Mbappe as well as the Barcelona duo of Philippe Coutinho and Ousmane Dembele.
According to popular French newspaper L’Equipe, Antoine Griezmann will earn a whopping €85m at Barcelona over the next five years.
The former Real Sociedad player will receive €17m per annum at Barcelona when he joins in the next few days.
Antoine Griezmann was formerly a strong transfer target of Premier League giants Manchester United who will definitely miss out on him to Spanish champions Barcelona.
Done Deal: Barcelona To Trigger £108m Release Clause For Man Utd Target
Three-time European champions Manchester United might have missed out on Atletico Madrid forward Antoine Griezmann after it was revealed that Spanish champions Barcelona will trigger his release clause at Atletico Madrid.
According to Sky Sports, Barcelona will trigger the £108m release clause in his Atletico Madrid contract having already confirmed that he will leave the Spanish capital club this summer.
Premier League giants Manchester United came close to snapping Griezmann up from Atletico Madrid at the start of last season but the move didn’t materialize.
Barcelona also wanted to sign him last summer but he stayed at Atletico Madrid and went on to sign a new contract.
Spanish champions Barcelona will finally get their man when they pay the release clause in the Atletico Madrid contract.
Antoine Griezmann confirmed his summer exit from Atletico Madrid on Tuesday night via a video posted on the club’s official website.
It was revealed that the Spanish La Liga game with Levante on Saturday would be his last match for Atletico Madrid.
Antoine Griezmann joined Atletico Madrid from fellow Spanish La Liga club Real Sociedad in the summer of 2014 and he has been an important player for the Rojiblancos since his transfer from the Basque outfit.
Confirmed: Barcelona Set Transfer Fee For Man Utd Target Philippe Coutinho
Five-time European champions Barcelona have set the transfer fee for flop Philippe Coutinho according to reports coming out of the media in Spain.
Philippe Coutinho has struggled to impose himself on games involving Barcelona since his move to the Nou Camp during last year’s winter transfer window.
According to the specific report from Spanish media outlet Sport, Barcelona have reached the decision to sell Philippe Coutinho this summer and an £86.8m transfer fee has been set for him.
Manchester United are one of the clubs interested in the former Liverpool player who’s likely to bring an end to his Barcelona spell in the next few weeks.
Apart from the Red Devils, Chelsea and Paris Saint Germain (PSG) are also interested in signing Coutinho.
The Brazilian international has been linked with a return to Liverpool as well but that transfer is largely impossible due to the manner of his exit in January 2018.
Liverpool were reluctant to let him join Barcelona and he had to force through a move to the Nou Camp.
Philippe Coutinho is presently out of action as a result of the thigh injury that he sustained on Sunday.
He will miss the next two weeks as a result of that injury.
How Barcelona summer transfer decision will hurt Liverpool
It has been noted that any decision by the Spanish La Liga outfit Barcelona to have Brazilian international Philippe Coutinho sold will affect his former team Liverpool financially.
According to reports, the English Premier League contenders will lose £17 million as soon as Barcelona successfully have Philippe Coutinho sold in this summer transfer window.
Philippe Coutinho has been in the news for a couple of weeks with reports claiming that he could be sold at the end of the season after it was observed that he did not receive the needed attention and playing time in the team.
It suggested that Philippe Coutinho is not happy at Barcelona since his big-money move to the Spanish side as he was unable to deliver the same performance as at Liverpool.
However, Barcelona only paid £106 million from the £142 million agreed between the two teams and there was an understanding that the remaining would be paid installmentaly on differed terms.
It was agreed that Liverpool will earn £4.4 million if Barcelona won the Champions League and another 4.4 if they successfully qualify for the tournament and that has been achieved and fulfilled.
The same £4.4 million was paid to Liverpool when Philippe Coutinho earned 25 appearances while another £17 million is to be paid if he reaches 100 appearances and that seems to be far from being achieved.
How Liverpool victory over Barcelona will affect transfer window
Emerging report hints that the transfer decision of the Spanish La Liga outfit Barcelona would be affected because of the defeat they suffered against the English Premier League outfit Liverpool in the semi-finals of the Champions League.
Barcelona were stopped from fulfilling their dreams of lifting the Champions League as they were defeated 4-0 in the second leg of the semi-finals despite securing a 3-0 win in the first leg at the Camp Nou.
The defeat suffered by Barcelona remains a big one to the club and management and it has been reported that Argentina international Lionel Messi is yet to get over it.
According to reports, some players must be allowed to leave the club as soon as the summer transfer window is opened because they have just little to contribute to the club which is not enough for a title win.
Meanwhile, the Spanish champions did not have a motive of having some of their players sold but the report claims that the Argentina international is the man behind the push and he already has the name told to the management.
The report claims that Lionel Messi wants World Cup winner Samuel Umtiti, World Cup runner-up Ivan Rakitic and Brazilian international Philippe Coutinho out of the club.
Deal On: Barcelona Confident Of Landing £60m-rated Man Utd Target
Spanish champions Barcelona are closing in on a major transfer this summer if reports emanating from the media in the United Kingdom are anything to go by.
Barcelona is confident of the signing of highly rated Ajax Amsterdam defender Matthijs De Ligt when the transfer window reopens this summer according to the publication from The Independent.
It was revealed that a £60m transfer fee would be enough to prise De Ligt away from Ajax in the summer as Barcelona attempt to reunite him with Frenkie De Jong at Barcelona next season.
De Ligt and De Jong play together for both club (Ajax Amsterdam) and country (Netherlands) and the latter has already agreed on a transfer to Barcelona this summer.
De Jong signed a pre-contract agreement with Barcelona and he’s expected to join them later this year after the Spaniards agreed to a €65m deal for the midfielder plus €10m in add-ons.
Barcelona are not the only team in the hunt for De Ligt with clubs like Premier League champions Manchester City, French giants Paris Saint Germain and Manchester United also interested in a deal for him.
Three-time European champions Manchester United are in need of a quality centre back ahead of next season and the 19-year-old definitely fits the bill.
Man Utd Target Ivan Rakitic Faces Barcelona Sack After Champions League Humiliation
Barcelona midfielder Ivan Rakitic could leave the club in the summer as part of a big clearout at the club following the humiliation suffered at the hands of Premier League club, Liverpool.
Croatian World Cup star Rakitic has emerged as a transfer target for two Premier League clubs namely Chelsea and Manchester United in recent weeks.
According to Spanish newspaper AS, Ivan Rakitic and two others are facing the exit door at the club.
French centre back Samuel Umtiti and Brazilian playmaker Philippe Coutinho are also on the verge of leaving the club.
The aforementioned players could be sold when the transfer window reopens this summer.
Umtiti has also been linked with a Premier League transfer just like what’s obtainable with Coutinho.
The Barcelona manager is not safe after his team’s collapse and he’s aware of this as mentioned by the Spanish tactician during his post-match press conference after the second leg of their semifinal tie with Liverpool in the Champions League.
Ernesto Valverde told reporters that he expects his position as the Barcelona manager to be under serious scrutiny especially after he masterminded the collapse against Liverpool.
Barcelona had won the first leg 3-0 at home before losing the second leg 4-0 at the home of their English opponents Liverpool.
