Three-time European champions Manchester United have initiated a plan to finally put an end to their well documented defensive issues.

The Red Devils have struggled defensively this season after conceding 33 goals in just 23 games in the Premier League.

In addition, Manchester United have been able to keep just four clean sheets in the league this term.

The Red Devils have one of the worst defensive records in the Premier League.

England international defender Phil Jones could leave the club at the end of his contract in the summer while the likes of Eric Bailly, Chris Smalling and Victor Lindelof have failed to provide the answer to the aforementioned defensive issues.

The Daily Star revealed that senior Manchester United officials have two things at the top of their to-do list.

It was said that a quality centre back signing and a director of football are the priorities for chief executive Ed Woodward.

Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly is the top target for Manchester United in their quest to strengthen on the defensive front.

Senegalese international centre back Koulibaly is widely regarded as one of the top three defenders on the world football stage.

The 27-year-old is rated at around £90m by his Italian Serie A club.
