Arsenal are plotting a move for Chelsea defender Gary Cahill before the end of this winter transfer window on Thursday.

This is according to the report from the Daily Mirror which stated that the Gunners are eyeing a transfer for the Chelsea outcast on or before Thursday’s transfer deadline.

The 33-year-old has also been linked with a move to West London rivals Fulham.

The Cottagers have the worst defensive record in the Premier League this term and manager Claudio Ranieri is targeting defensive reinforcements to boost his team for the remainder of the season with Fulham currently battling relegation.

Ranieri was formerly the manager at Chelsea before he was sacked at the start of the 2004/05 season.

It remains to be seen whether Chelsea would be ready to send Cahill to Arsenal with the two clubs in a keenly contested race for Champions League football next season.

Chelsea are in the fourth spot on the Premier League table which is the final slot for Champions League football.

The Blues are three points ahead of the Gunners who are in the fifth position ahead of sixth-placed Manchester United on goal difference.

Arsenal have several injuries in the defensive aspect of the team and a move for Cahill would go a long way to strengthen that area of the pitch.
