Spanish La Liga champions Barcelona are edging closer to a transfer for Ajax Amsterdam defender Matthijs De Ligt.
According to Spanish media outlet Marca, the Catalans are confident of securing a deal for the young Dutch international center back who has previously been linked with a move to Premier League giants Manchester United.
The latest news on Matthijs De Ligt is coming just days after Ajax teammate Frenkie De Jong signed for Barcelona.
De Jong, 21, will join the Spanish La Liga champions in the summer.
Barcelona agreed a €75m transfer fee for Frenkie De Jong earlier this week including add-ons.
Matthijs De Ligt could be on course to join him at Nou Camp with Barcelona close to a deal for the 19-year-old defender.
Apart from Barcelona and Manchester United, Matthijs De Ligt has also been linked with clubs like Manchester City and French champions Paris Saint Germain (PSG).
De Ligt has emerged as a key player for both clubs (Ajax Amsterdam) and country (Netherlands) in the last year.
His performances have propelled Dutch giants to the top two spots in the league as well as the round of 16 in the Champions League where they’ll face holders Real Madrid for the right to secure a quarterfinal place in the competition.
