Arsenal goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez is closing in on a transfer to English Championship strugglers Reading in this January transfer window.
According to the Daily Mail, the Gunners third-choice goalie will join the Royals on a short-term loan until the end of the season.
Reading are third from bottom on the Championship table.
The Argentine shot-stopper spent last season on loan at Spanish La Liga club Getafe before returning to Arsenal in the summer of 2018.
Arsenal manager Unai Emery then persuaded him to join the club’s pre-season tour of Singapore.
Emiliano Martinez is the Gunners’ third goalkeeper behind Petr Cech and new signing Bernd Leno who’s the undisputed number one Arsenal goalie following his arrival from German Bundesliga outfit Bayer Leverkusen at the start of this season.
Martinez has found playing time hard to come by as a result of his status.
He has played just once this season and that was accompanied by a clean sheet following the 1-0 win over Qarabag at the Emirates Stadium in what was the Gunners’ last game in the Europa League group stage this term.
Championship leaders Leeds United were interested in him before they settled for Spanish shot-stopper Kiko Casilla from European champions Real Madrid.
