Former Arsenal player Paul Marriner has revealed that Spanish midfielder Ander Herrera deserves to stay at Manchester United beyond his current contract which expires this summer.
Ander Herrera has less than six months left on his present Red Devils contract and he has been linked with a move away from the club with Spanish La Liga giants Athletic Bilbao said to be the favourites for his signature.
Arsenal legend Paul Marriner urged Manchester United to keep Ander Herrera at the club while he was doing his punditry work on popular media platform ESPN.
The footballer turned pundit said that the Spaniard is vital for his tackles in the middle of the park as well as the energy that he adds to the Manchester United team.
Athletic Bilbao has already confirmed their interest in Ander Herrera via the club’s sporting director Rafael Alkorta.
In a chat with Spanish radio station Cadena SER, the new Athletic Bilbao sporting director confirmed that the Basque giants are interested in players like Ibai Gomez, Fernando Llorente and Ander Herrera.
Manchester United has earlier activated the extra year in Herrera’s contract to take him till the summer but the club has not opened contract talks with him.
He can start to negotiate a potential free transfer move with foreign clubs with less than six months left on his present deal with Manchester United.
