Manchester United have been dealt a big blow in their pursuit of Atletico Madrid defender Diego Godin after the player rejected the Red Devils for a second time.
According to Italian media outlet TuttoMercatoWeb, Diego Godin has turned down a move to Manchester United again having rejected the three-time European champions last summer.
Various media reports said that Manchester United activated the player’s release clause last summer only for him to reject the move in favour of staying at Atletico Madrid.
He was one of the several defensive targets linked with Manchester United at the start of this season.
The Uruguayan international centre back has turned down the Red Devils again after recent reports claim that he has agreed a two-year deal to join Italian Serie A giants Inter Milan on a free transfer in the summer.
Diego Godin, 32, was said to be unhappy with senior Atletico Madrid officials after they failed to offer him a new contract despite the fact that he has less than six months remaining on his current deal.
In a recent interview, Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone talked about his desire to see his captain commit his long-term future to the club beyond this summer.
