Three-time European champions Manchester United could move for AS Roma defender Kostas Manolas in the upcoming January transfer window after the club’s scouts ran the rule over him.

The Greek international centre back was watched by the Manchester United scouts and they were impressed by his performance for Roma in the 1-0 loss to rivals Juventus in what was an Italian Serie A clash played at the weekend.

The scouts’ presence at the game played at the Juventus Stadium was revealed by popular Italian transfer news portal Tutto Mercato Web via Sportwitness.

Kostas Manolas, 27, has been a mainstay of the AS Roma team since he joined the Italian capital club from Greek giants Olympiacos.

He was a key performer for AS Roma as the Italians reached the semifinals of last season’s Champions League before they were beaten on aggregate by Premier League table toppers Liverpool.

Manolas has a €36m release clause in his contract with Roma and he recently made super-agent Mino Raiola his representative to further fuel transfer rumours of a move to the Premier League with Manchester United.

Mino Raiola is also the agent of Manchester United star Paul Pogba.

The Red Devils are keen to strengthen their defence and Kostas Manolas could be the man.
