Arsenal Goalie Attracting Interest From France

Arsenal goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez is reportedly attracting interest from France following the news that top flight side Rennes want to sign him.

Yahoo Sport France claim that the French Ligue 1 club has already contacted the Argentine shot stopper about a possible transfer when the winter transfer window reopens at the start of next month.

Rennes are on the search for a new first choice goalkeeper with current recipient Thomas Koubek expected to leave the club in January.

Emiliano Martinez would be better served moving to France rather than staying at Arsenal where he’s the third choice goalkeeper behind summer arrival Bernd Leno and Petr Cech.

He has played once for the Gunners this season.

His sole appearance came in the final Group E game for the Gunners in the Europa League.

Emiliano Martinez kept a clean sheet as Arsenal beat Qarabag FC of Azerbaijan 1-0 to secure their status as group winners.

Arsenal have been drawn with Belarusian side BATE Borisov in the last 32 of the competition.

Emiliano Martinez spent the whole of last season on loan at Spanish La Liga side Getafe.

He has a contract at Arsenal until the end of the 2021/22 season.

The 26-year-old goal was the fourth choice following the arrival of Bernd Leno from Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen in the summer.

David Ospina’s exit to Napoli on a season-long loan restored him back to the no. 3 spot.
