Highly rated Ajax Amsterdam defender Matthijs De Ligt has dismissed transfer rumours linking him with an exit from his club when the January transfer window reopens in the next fortnight.
De Ligt shut down those exit rumours in his recent interview monitored by theweek.
The 19-year-old was speaking after he was named the most promising under-21 player on the European football scene on Monday.
Dutch international centre back Matthijs is regarded as one of the hottest properties in Europe.
The aforementioned transfer rumours had linked him with European heavyweights such as Manchester United and Spanish La Liga champions Barcelona.
Nou Camp outfit Barcelona are said to be keen on a move for him as a long-term replacement for Gerard Pique.
Recently retired Spanish international defender Pique is entering the twilight of his career and Barcelona see De Ligt as a quality replacement for him.
Manchester United are in need of defensive reinforcements following their disappointing start to this season defensively and the acquisition of Matthijs De Ligt would go a long way to improve the Red Devils’ ailing defence.
Manchester United have kept just two clean sheets in the Premier League this season and also conceded 29 goals this season (after 17 games) which is more than the 28 goals conceded last season.
