Manchester United have emerged as the bookmakers’ favourites to sign Arsenal playmaker Mesut Ozil ahead of the mid-season transfer market scheduled to open in three weeks’ time.
Arsenal are desperate to get the German off their wage bill if reports emanating from the British media are anything to go by.
The 2014 World Cup winner has repeatedly been linked with Manchester United dating back to when he had some months left on his previous Arsenal contract.
Mesut Ozil put pen to paper on a three-year deal in February thus making him the highest earner in the history of Arsenal.
The contract is worth £350,000 on a weekly basis.
The transfer rumours involving Mesut Ozil were boosted last month when the German was dropped from the Arsenal team for the away game at South Coast club Bournemouth.
He has missed the last four games as a result of a back injury.
According to bookmaker Coral via Manchester Evening News, Manchester United are overwhelming favourites to sign Ozil at 1/2 ahead of Barcelona (7/2) and Premier League champions Manchester City (7/1).
The trio of Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund and Inter Milan (10/1) are also in the running to sign him.
Earlier reports claim that a transfer fee of around £25m would be enough for Arsenal to leave the club.
