Celtic scouts were reported to have watched the game between Bristol City and Ipswich Town in a bid to see Chelsea loanee Tomas Kalas, club call claims.
Celtic have identified the Czech international as a good fit for the club and seems to have been convinced having watched him play with the hope of having a bid being submitted in the winter transfer window which reopens in coming weeks.
The 25-year-old is an unknown face with the West London side having just had four appearances in the Blues jersey with a number of loan spells as he could not break into the first team having started from the youth team.
However, the player has actually developed but not the quality needed by manager Maurizio Sarri which makes it very easy for Celtic to secure with as low as £3. 6 million knowing that he will not be kept at the club.
Former Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers who is in charge of the Celtic side has told the club he will be ready to have Tomas Kalas come in by the new year.
Meanwhile, the West London side have got a number of options in the team which makes Tomas Kalas surplus to requirement at the Stamford Bridge.
