Arsenal will have to fend off competition from the Premier League in their quest to sign highly-rated TSG Hoffenheim midfielder Nadiem Amiri ahead of the upcoming transfer window scheduled to begin as from the 1st of January.
According to the publication from trusted German newspaper Bild via The Sun, Arsenal will battle it out with North London rivals Tottenham Hotspur for the German junior international.
The 22-year-old is currently out of action as a result of a foot injury but that has not stopped clubs from indicating interest in signing him.
It was also revealed that German Bundesliga side and Champions League campaigners Schalke 04 are also interested in securing his transfer from Hoffenheim.
Amiri could be a direct replacement for wantaway Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey as the Gunners prepare for life without the Welsh international player in their ranks.
Ramsey, 27, is on the verge of quitting Arsenal after the club’s failure to offer him a new contract.
His current Arsenal deal is expected to expire at the end of this season.
Arsenal had earlier offered him new terms only for them to withdraw the offer.
With his Gunners future up in the air, he has been linked with clubs like Liverpool, Bayern Munich and Juventus.
