West London club Chelsea are set to miss out on the signing of Lazio’s 23-year0old midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic in the coming winter transfer window.
It is reported that the Blues might not be able to meet up with the competition from European heavyweights like English Premier League side Manchester United, Spanish giants Real Madrid and Barcelona and French outfit Paris Saint Germain.
They were all interested in the service of the Serbia international having impressed in the 2017/18 season and help Lazio come close to winning Champions League spot.
Suggestions are that the star player is now ready to move on from the Italian side but has been lured with a new contract deal that will make him become the highest paid player in the club.
Sergej Milinkovic-Savic’s contract with Lazio still extends until 2023 but there are indications he will not remain at the club until then with offers coming in from all angles.
The Serbian earns £4 million per year in addition to a £600,000 bonus but the club added no release clause in the new deal if reports from Italy are to be believed.
The development is an effort by the club to ensure he is sold for the right amount and not be limited to a release clause.
