Europa League campaigners Arsenal are eyeing a big money move for highly-rated Lille winger Nicolas Pepe ahead of the January transfer window.
According to the report from the popular English news platform Daily Mail, the Gunners are targeting the in-form Ivorian international player as they attempt to find a replacement for the injured Danny Welbeck.
Former Sunderland and Manchester United player Welbeck sustained a season-ending injury earlier this month during a Europa League meeting at home to Portuguese Super League side Sporting Lisbon.
The 27-year-old suffered the injury in the first half of the game which ended in a goalless draw.
Danny Welbeck broke his right ankle and has since undergone two operations to correct the problem.
Since his injury, the Gunners have been linked with several forward replacements from Nicolas Pepe of Lille to the AS Roma duo of Cengiz Under and Patrick Schick.
It appears that Pepe is the Gunners’ favourite to replace Welbeck for the second half of the season.
The Ivorian forward has been in sensational form for his French Ligue 1 side since the start of last season.
He has scored eight goals and provided five others in 13 appearances for Lille this season, including a hattrick against Amiens earlier in the campaign.
Nicolas Pepe is presently rated at £27m by his French club.
