North London giants Arsenal have reportedly offered forward Danny Welbeck a new contract despite the transfer rumours linking him with a transfer away from the club.
This is according to David Ornstein of the BBC.
The well respected journalist revealed that Arsenal have opened contract talks with the England international forward.
Danny Welbeck was recently part of the England squad that impressed at this summer’s FIFA World Cup tournament in Russia.
He rarely featured for the Three Lions as they finished fourth at the end of the tournament.
David Ornstein also said that contract talks began before Welbeck suffered a season-ending injury.
He sustained a serious right ankle injury during the Gunners’ Europa League clash with Portuguese Super League giants Sporting Lisbon earlier this month.
The former Manchester United and Sunderland player got injured in the first half of the Matchday 5 clash at the Emirates Stadium.
Both sides played out a goalless draw as Arsenal secured their spot in the first knockout stage of the competition and also maintained their unbeaten run.
Danny Welbeck has less than a year on his current Arsenal deal prompting transfer reports linking with a move to London rivals Crystal Palace when the transfer window reopens in January.
