Arsenal will reportedly have to fend off the challenge of North London rivals Tottenham Hotspur in their pursuit of England international defender Phil Jones.
Jones plays his club football for three-time European champions Manchester United.
According to the publication from popular English news outlet The Sun, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing the 26-year-old centre back.
Phil Jones was one of the last signings of the Sir Alex Ferguson era before the legendary Manchester United manager retired in 2013.
He signed for the Red Devils from English Championship side Blackburn Rovers in 2011.
Manchester United paid a transfer fee of around £16m to secure his signing.
Big things were expected from him but Phil Jones has failed to live up to those expectations at Old Trafford.
His long-term future at the club is in doubt with less than a year left on his current Manchester United deal though the former European champions reserve the right to activate the clause of an additional year.
Phil Jones has battled with series of injuries in the last few seasons especially in the last campaign but that didn’t stop him from being named in the 23-man England squad to this summer’s FIFA World Cup tournament in Russia.
