Arsenal have reportedly identified a young striker as the replacement for the stricken Danny Welbeck when the transfer window reopens in the New Year.

According to a specific report from trusted Italian news outlet calciomercato via dailycannon, Italian Serie A giants AS Roma are keen on loaning striker Patrick Schick out in their quest to get him more playing.

The Italian capital club don’t have any problem with him joining the Gunners who are in the market for a replacement for the injured Welbeck.

The England international forward suffered a season-ending injury during the Gunners’ Europa League game against Sporting Lisbon on Thursday night.

Welbeck, 27, sustained a right ankle injury after landing awkwardly.

He was trying to make contact with a cross from Stephan Lichtsteiner when he sustained the injury.

The injury overshadowed the game which ended in a goalless draw at the Emirates Stadium.

The result was enough to take the North Londoners’ impressive run to 15 games without defeat and also book their spot in the last 32 of the competition.

Czech Republic international Patrick Schick could be an able replacement for Welbeck despite the fact that he has not scored for Roma this season.

He has made just two starts and just 273 minutes of football.
