North London giants Arsenal will have to fend off competition from European champions in their bid to sign Espanyol defender Mario Hermoso.
According to the report from popular English media outlet TalkSport, Arsenal are strongly interested in signing the 23-year-old.
The report further claimed that new Gunners boss Unai Emery is a big fan of the centre back and is keen to bolster his defensive options with him.
Mario Hermoso has been hugely impressive for Espanyol in the new Spanish La Liga season.
Hermoso came through the Real Madrid youth system before leaving the club for Espanyol in 2017.
The aforementioned report also revealed that Real Madrid can sign him back for £6.5m as stipulated in the contract that took him to Espanyol.
The Gunners will need to see off competition from the Los Merengues if they want to sign their transfer target ahead of the upcoming transfer window in the New Year.
