North London giants Arsenal face a big fight in their pursuit of Moroccan international defender Mehdi Benatia according to various media reports.
Benatia, 31, has failed to break into the starting XI at Italian champions Juventus in the new campaign and this is partly due to the summer arrival of Leonardo Bonucci.
The Italian international centre back returned to the Old Lady during this summer’s transfer window after just one season with rivals AC Milan.
He had earlier moved to the seven-time European champions from Juventus in the summer of 2017.
His arrival has led to a limited playing time for Benatia under Juventus manager Maximiliano Allegri and that has prompted transfer rumours linking him with a move away from Italy.
According to the report from Le10Sport, Arsenal manager Unai Emery is keen to boost his defensive options when the transfer window reopens in January and he has targeted Medhi Benatia.
The Moroccan recently captained his country to this summer’s FIFA World Cup tournament in Russia.
He was powerless as the North Africans were eliminated in the group stage of the tournament.
Apart from the Gunners, Mehdi Benatia has been linked with a move to European heavyweights such as Barcelona and Manchester United.
