Manchester United midfielder Nemanja Matic caused a little controversy at the weekend after he failed to wear a poppy on his away shirt when the Red Devils took on Bournemouth in their Premier League clash at the weekend.
The 30-year-old Serbian international took to his official Instagram account to give the reason behind the decision.
According to him, the poppy reminded him when his village was destroyed by Nato-led forces when he was young.
Matic is expected to miss out on poppy wearing when Premier League players do so this weekend for Remembrance Sunday.
Despite the controversy surrounding the former Chelsea player, Manchester United were able to pick up the maximum points after the Red Devils came from behind to beat their hosts 2-1 in the Matchweek 11 clash.
The former European champions played second fiddle for the majority of the first half and rightfully trailed to an 11th-minute goal from Bournemouth striker Callum Wilson.
Manchester United recovered from the bad start to draw level in the 35th minutes off an assist from Chilean forward Alexis Sanchez.
The Red Devils secured the points in the second minute of added time through substitute Marcus Rashford after good work from French midfielder Paul Pogba.
