Crystal Palace boss Roy Hodgson will forever be grateful to inform Chelsea player Ruben Loftus-Cheek for saving the club from relegation when he had a loan spell at Selhurst Park last season.

Loftus-Cheek had 25-games with Crystal Palace last season after he was unable to secure a starting role at the Stamford Bridge under former manager Antonio Conte.

Hodgson explained that the English player was a star in his team and his presence was very impactful in ensuring his side play in the Premier League and not the Championship this season.

The former England boss stated that he is happy to see Loftus-Cheek see more games knowing that he never had the opportunity to do that the beginning of the season.

He praised the Chelsea player for being a star and a figure who made an enormous impression at Palace last season.

Efforts by Hodgson to have the 22-year-old back at the club failed as he is ready to stay with the West London club to fight for a place under new manager Maurizio Sarri.

The young lad is, however, expected to be selected in the line-up today to face his former side when they clash on later on Sunday evening.
