Lucas Torreira Has Transformed Arsenal, Former Gunner Reveals
Former Arsenal midfielder Adrian Clarke has praised the impact of Lucas Torreira at the club since he swapped Italy for England during this summer’s transfer window.
Clarke, who played for Arsenal between 1991 and 1997, spoke in glowing terms about the Uruguay international defensive midfield star in his premier league column monitored on Daily Express.
He further revealed that the 22-year-old has transformed the Gunners this season under new manager Unai Emery.
Lucas Torreira signed for Arsenal in the summer after the North Londoners agreed to pay Italian Serie A side Sampdoria the sum of £26m for his signature.
The 22-year-old was slowly introduced to the Arsenal team after his World Cup exertions with Uruguay this summer.
He was part of the Uruguay squad that reached the quarterfinals at the 2018 FIFA World Cup tournament in Russia before they were beaten 2-0 by eventual champions France.
Lucas Torreira started the first five Premier League matches from the bench and went on to appear as a substitute in all of those games.
The former Sampdoria ball winner made his first league start in the 2-0 win over Everton and that coincided with the Gunners’ first clean sheet of the season.
He has now started the last three league games for Arsenal.
