Netherlands captain and Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk is reportedly injured and has been ruled out of his country side’s friendly game against Belgium on Tuesday.

This is after the Van Dijk got his name on the score sheet in Belgium’s 3 – 0 win over Germany in the UEFA Nations League tournament.

This remains a headache to Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp who will have a major setback should the Dutch international not return to full fitness before the resumption of the English Premier League.

The 27-year-old is reported to be feeling the pain from a rib injury he had sustained when he featured for Liverpool against Southampton last month.

The player has made efforts to endure the pain but it seems to have gotten out of hand and the Dutch Football Association have revealed that the Liverpool defender has been ruled out of the Tuesday friendly game.

It is suggested that no player wil be called up to replace the injured defender as other players already in camp will be asked to step in.

Should Van Dijk not return, it will be a major issue for Klopp who had earlier protested that players be allowed to rest and not be involved in cumbersome fixtures.
