Premier League giants Manchester United could make a move for Inter Milan defender Milan Skriniar during the January transfer window as manager Jose Mourinho attempts to turn the fortunes of the club around.
Mourinho and Manchester United have endured an underwhelming start to the new season.
The Red Devils were knocked out of the Carabao Cup during the week after they lost on penalties to Championship side Derby County in their third round tie at Old Trafford.
The Derby County defeat followed the disappointing 1-1 draw with newly promoted outfit Wolverhampton Wanderers in their last Premier League match at Old Trafford on Saturday.
The draw left the Red Devils eight points adrift of league leaders and fierce rivals Liverpool following a run of just two wins in their last five games.
A move for Slovakian centre-back Skriniar would go a long way to improve an ailing Manchester United defence.
Manchester United emerged with the best defensive record at the end of last season’s Premier League campaign but that defensive solidity has vanished at the start of the current season.
The former Premier League winners were linked with a move for several defenders in the summer but the club failed to get any to leave Mourinho frustrated.
However, a January move for Skriniar could lift the mood of Mourinho and a Manchester United rearguard that has conceded nine goals in six league games.
