Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has emerged as the bookmakers’ favourite to be the first managerial casualty in the new Premier League season.
The former Inter Milan, FC Porto and Real Madrid boss has endured a stress-filled week after his Manchester United side were held to a disappointing 1-1 home draw with newly promoted side Wolverhampton Wanderers in a Premier League clash on Saturday before being dumped out of the Carabao Cup by Championship side Derby County in disappointing fashion.
The Red Devils lost 8-7 on penalties to Frank Lampard’s side in the third round tie at Old Trafford on Tuesday night after both sides played 2-2 at regulation time.
The surprising loss to Derby County has heaped more pressure on the Portuguese tactician and his well-publicized feud with French midfielder Paul Pogba has not helped his cause.
Both parties recently resumed their war of words publicly after the former Juventus star criticised his manager’s tactics while speaking after the Wolves game.
The France World Cup winner was then stripped of his role as the club’s assistant captain due to his outbursts.
Jose Mourinho confirmed the decision during his pre-match press conference ahead of the Carabao Cup third round clash with Derby County.
